Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the objective of the internships?

The objective of the Student or Work Internships for ESPOL students is to provide the participant with a complement to the training provided by the institution through direct contact with the area of influence of their future profession.

Are internships mandatory?

Yes, in order to obtain a degree, students must complete a minimum period of internships as established by each academic unit (at FIEC it is 640 hours, equivalent to four months full time).

How long does each internship last?

Internships can be done at the end of each semester or during the class period if the student has time available. The duration of each internship program will be at least 30 days.

What are my obligations once I am assigned an internship?

During the internship, students are obligated to comply with the internal regulations of the company or institution where they are doing the internship.

If a student is unjustifiably absent from his or her internship or violates the provisions of the previous paragraph, he or she will be sanctioned with the suspension of registration in one or more subjects, depending on the offense committed and after analysis by the Student Affairs and Welfare Committee.

Will I receive any type of benefit from the company offering the internship?

Each company that offers internships will indicate what kind of assistance it will provide to the student, such as: salary, transportation, food, insurance, housing, etc. Not all companies offer all types of assistance.

What do I do if I get the internship (self-management)?

Usually the company that offers the student a place requires a formal request from ESPOL, for which the student must fill out the online form "Self-management Letter" and within 24 hours go to the FIEC secretary's office or the Internship Coordination Office to pick up the letter. The student will be in charge of making the respective arrangements with the company to obtain the internship.

What do I do once the internship is over?

At the end of the internship, the student must:
(a) Submit to his/her immediate boss in the company the Performance Evaluation Form, which must be signed and stamped by the company.
He/she must bring this printed .pdf to his/her coordinator's office to be filled out and signed at the end, then scan it and send it to the Internship mail* of his/her career, with the following format: LastName1_LastName2_FirstName1.pdf.
Finally, you must deliver the Performance Evaluation Form to the office of the Internship Coordination of your career, to be registered as evidence.
b) Download the Internship Report Form, which must be filled out by the student, where he/she evaluates the company and the activities performed.
Scan it and send it to the Internships mail* of your career, following the format indicated at the end of it.

NOTE:

You must attach in the same email the Performance Evaluation Form and the Internship Report Format, scanned and complying with the indicated formats.

  • Once there is proof that both documents (.pdf and .doc) and the Performance Evaluation Form have been sent, the internship hours will be credited to the student.
  • If the student does not submit both documents within three weeks from the date of completion of the internship, and there is no justification, the internship will be invalidated.

Can I validate assistantships in ESPOL laboratories for internships?

You can validate by following the same process as indicated in FAQ 7.
In the case of several assistantships of several semesters, you must submit both forms for each internship.

NOTE:

Academic assistantships cannot be validated.{/slide}{slide=9. What do I do once I have completed the required 640 hours of internships?} Once the student justifies his/her internships by submitting the Evaluation and Performance Form and the Internship Report Form for each internship completed, he/she will be credited for his/her internship hours.
Once the student has completed the required 640 hours, his or her internships will be automatically unblocked from the ESPOL debt system.
