When dreams are embraced and dressed in cap and gown: 228 stories, 228 FIEC graduates. Discipline, dedication, commitment, confidence, humility, gratitude, and tenacity. These were the words—spoken with voices still full of emotion—that Andrea Vélez, Leonardo Salguero, Fiorella Castro, Josué Corozo, Andrea Pérez, and Fabricio Layedra, alumni and proud Computer Science Engineer of the 2020 class, used to summarize their journey.
These values, nurtured in classrooms, laboratories, and countless long nights, turned last Saturday into smiles, hugs, and diplomas. It was a day that will forever live in the memory of the 228 new graduates from the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FIEC), who completed their studies in Computer Science, Telematics, Electronics, Electricity, and Telecommunications. From early morning, ESPOL moved to a different rhythm. The brilliance of the blazing sun wasn’t only in the clear sky, but also in the eyes of those who arrived in their finest attire and with hearts overflowing with pride. Mothers adjusted suits with trembling hands, fathers arranged photos, siblings recorded every moment.
Laughter, cheers, and even tears filled the campus pathways—and no one tried to hide them. Social media posts began to overflow with messages like: “Thank you FIEC, thank you family, thank you life,” written by those aware they were closing a once-in-a-lifetime chapter.
The ceremony blended solemnity with genuine joy. ESPOL authorities and each faculty’s leadership, including our Dean and Vice Dean, Jorge Aragundi and Rafael Bonilla, joined the graduates on stage, applauding and even taking photos themselves. They wanted to capture the moment.
Among the graduates, every face told the story behind the diploma. Many closed their eyes for a moment, trying to hold onto that fleeting second. Because it wasn’t just a ceremony—it was the celebration of a journey walked alongside demanding professors, friends who became family, and families who never let go.
In 2025, a total of 1,319 graduates from across ESPOL faced a new challenge as professionals. But beyond the numbers, it was also a day to honor those who stood by their side through every fall and every rise. There were kisses, hugs, and tears—yes—but of deep joy. Promises were whispered, knowing glances were exchanged, silently saying: “We made it.” FIEC was both witness and protagonist of that multiplied emotion—228 times.
ESPOL’s rector, Cecilia Paredes, delivered the closing message, warm and straight to the heart. “Be leaders who never settle for the minimum effort, but who strive for excellence. Leaders who turn challenges into opportunities (...). Remember, the will to contribute to the world is what truly leaves a mark,” she said. Then, with eyes shining with hope, she added: “You are the face of the Ecuador we want to build: one that values talent, champions equity, and drives sustainability and purposeful digital transformation.”
At the end of the day, while some were still taking photos with the campus in the background and others searched for that professor who believed in them when they doubted themselves, the emotion lingered. The 228 FIEC graduates close this chapter with full hearts. They take with them knowledge, yes—but also a community that watched them grow. They know this is not a farewell, but the beginning of new journeys. Because when dreams are embraced and dressed in cap and gown… they begin to walk toward the future.
